What is Synthetic Paper?
Synthetic paper is produced using no pulp. Unlike the paper-milling process, the paper can be manufactured at a single location in a controlled environment with high-energy efficiency. Its primary input is polyolefin/polypropylene, a 100% recyclable polymer used in a wide range of products including paper.
Due to the durable nature of synthetics, paper made from this material can be re-purposed numerous times without it ever having to reach landfill. This, coupled with a market mechanism to economically perpetuate its re-use, could provide a powerful incentive for conserving one of our most important natural resources.
Synthetic paper is used in a number of applications such as labels, menus, catalogs, waterproof books, manuals, and annual reports.
One of the most prominent uses of synthetic paper today is in the production of paper currency.
